CONDOR-Group informs UN Buyers

The importance of the world’s leading fair “security” is emphasized by the visit of a delegation of buyers from the United Nations.

At the stand of the Federal Association of Security Industry (BDSW), the delegation gained an insight into Germany's private security industry as well as drones as a means of improving security services. Dr Klaus Scho informed them accordingly by explaining the Songbird as a drone system of the CONDOR-Group and its application fields.

For several years, the CONDOR- Group has been working on the use of drones respectively robotics as a means of improving the quality of security services. “With our partners of CONDOR-Solutions, substantiated application concepts and operation resources are by now at our disposal. This undoubtedly includes our company’s Songbird," Dr Klaus Scho, managing partner of Germandrones, a brand of the CONDOR-Group, points out. It is with good reason that the CONDOR-Group can be understood as a technology driver in the industrial field. "The CONDOR-Group does not only dispose of our system, but additionally of our resilient Songbird that was developed, constructed and programmed in Germany," Dr Scho continues explaining.

The drone which features vertical and automatic taking off and landing combines the advantages of a copter drone with those of a fixed-wing aircraft. With a wingspan of more than three metres and as function of a payload of max. 4.4 kilograms, the Songbird can fly for a maximum of two hours within a range of max. 100 kilometres and at a speed of 70 km/h. "In this industrial field, we have an absolutely unique selling point at hand. In addition, it is easy to transport, assemble and change the payload. The Songbird fits into a standard Zarges box and into a VW Polo," Dr Scho underlines. The system's own Ground Control Station is used to program and monitor the flight routes for autonomous flying in the BVLOS (Beyond Visual Line of Sight) area. "The pilot has access at all times and can manually change the pre-programmed route," Dr Klaus Scho comments on the advantages of Songbird.

Customers such as the Bundeswehr (German Armed Forces) or the border police of the Republic of Moldova proved that the Songbird's advantages can meet official requirements. "The Bundeswehr uses two systems for surveying. In this regard, we were able to excel with a performance of flying 5 km2 in less than 90 minutes and surveying with an accuracy of less than three centimetres deviation at all levels," Dr Klaus Scho noted. The system can be applied for many tasks and is not at all limited to security. "We can carry out pipeline or roadway inspections as well as provide support in precision agriculture," Dr Scho adds. Using artificial intelligence, further ranges of tasks and service offers can be expected in the future. "We also have to evaluate the use of our drones in terms of the climate. Compared with the use of a helicopter, the drone operation is by far more climate-friendly while the image quality can be maintained or even exceeded", the managing partner of Germandrones concludes by assessing the use of state-of-the-art aerial robotics.
