Can a mapping system do this? Test flights with AeroDCS.

Can the sag of a powerline be calculated from aerial images? This and other questions have been investigated in cooperation with AeroDCS near Koblenz recently. Mapping the 60-ha (approx. 150 acres) large area didn’t pose any challenge for the Songbird. Even though the desired accuracy required a narrow grid of more than 20 km length, the measurement could be finished in about 20 minutes, using only a fraction of the available battery capacity. In addition, the Songbird was able to show its strengths when it came to repeating the tests with different camera systems in quick succession. Due to the modularity the payloads could easily be swapped and the whole campaign was finished within a few hours, with the usual reliability of the Songbird-system.
