The Songbird 150 high-precision mapping kit combines the outstanding Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) hardware and flight mission-software of Germandrones with mapping hard- and software technology from the market leaders (e.g. Trimble, Applanix, Klau-PPK, Pix4D etc). In combination with the training and maintenance concept, values are generated by our clients with maximum comfort.

 

Songbird-Series – “Made in Germany”

 

The Songbird  Series was developed by Germandrones, a German-owned company, based in the capital city of Berlin. Its Engineers have developed innovative, reliable, industrial Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) technology "Made in Germany" since 2016. Soft- and hardware are designed for the best possible support of our customers' requirements. We combined the advantages of traditional aircraft with vertical take-off of multirotor drones and made it more powerful to carry payloads up to 4.4 kg.

As a result, the Songbird 150 can fly more than an hour even with a heavy payload needed for high-accuracy and capture data of large territories which makes it a unique, versatile solution. With this solution, Germandrones has proven to survey 500 ha or more than 700 soccer fields in one flight for less than 90 minutes with an absolute 3D-accuracy of less than 3 cm. – Therefore, the Songbird 150 met and even exceeded the requirements and won a call for tenders of the Bundeswehr (Federal Armed Forces of Germany).

An opportunity to use SRTM data (Shuttle Radar Topography Mission) helps to choose the best flight parameters directly in the software. It is possible to use it either for the terrain follow mode or to check the elevation changes so that the best take-off point can be chosen and dangerous zones can be avoided.

 

For the increasing demand of BVLOS-flights (beyond visual line of sight), we integrated and successfully tested the use of ADS-B/FLARM technology to operate in cooperation with manned air traffic including operation in controlled air space via our Droneintelligence © GCS.

Germandrones Trimble

The Songbird 150 High Precision Mapping solution is designed to provide centimetre-level data accuracy with no compromises. So, each solution can be powered either by a high-performance Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS)-inertial solution with dual IMUs (“APX-20 UAV”) or by a single board GNSS-inertial solution (“APX-15 UAV”). Both variants are powered by technology from the market leader Trimble. Our customers are thus able to use the best market solution.

The highly accurate post-processed position and orientation solutions are used for direct georeferencing of cameras, lidars and other sensors. As a result, our customers can decrease the number of Ground control points and save time without losing accuracy.

There is also an option for our clients to bundle the Songbird 150 High-Precision-Mapping with the solutions from Klau Geomatics which uses industry-leading NovAtel GNSS hardware at the core of its products.

So there is still no compromise in terms of hardware quality and reliability. The KlauPPK direct georeferencing system, a synergy of hardware, software, and methodology, is an accurate, cost-effective, precision surveying technology for aerial mapping. It additionally provides our clients with the benefit of using PPP services to receive sufficient accuracy even without information from GNSS base stations. The unique technology of hybrid PPK/PPP processing will definitely reduce operational expenses and at the same time improve accuracy in remote areas where base station usage is complicated.
