A customer in the middle east will use the Songbird in its security & surveillance configuration to fight smuggling and other illegal activities. Recent flights endorse the system’s readiness even in over 40 °C hot weather.

In a typical deployment the UAV is launched from the base facility and climbs to an altitude of 1000 m to fly into a nearby mountain range often used by criminals trying to secretly bypass the official checkpoints. The aircraft flies up to 20 km away from the base while officers use the live video system with its powerful zoom and thermal imaging capabilities to search the area at day and night.

Altitude, temperature and lots of dust and sand have put the Songbird to a test which it has endured flawlessly so far. Currently solutions are being prepared to optimize the radio link quality near cities since the local frequency allocations differ significantly from European regulations.
